UNICEF deputy representative Ettie Higgins warned of “unconscionable” consequences if violence in Lebanon continues, following Israeli strikes that killed 492 people, including 35 children. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern for Lebanon standing “on the brink” and urged against further escalation. The UN called for an immediate cessation of violence, as schools closed, displacing families and leaving children in fear, while healthcare systems struggle to cope with the overwhelming number of injuries.
