On day two in Christchurch, England’s top order struggled against New Zealand’s seamers, with Zak Crawley and Joe Root both getting ducks and debutant Jacob Bethell falling for 10. However, Harry Brook (54 not out) and Ollie Pope (59 not out) steadied the innings with a century stand, taking England to 174 for four at tea. Brydon Carse shone with the ball, taking four wickets as England managed to fight back after a tough start.
