Hanwha Ocean, a South Korean shipbuilder, has secured contracts to construct two LNG carriers for its affiliate Hanwha Shipping at the Okpo-based yard, formerly known as DSME. The vessels are set to be delivered by September 2027. Hanwha Shipping, established in 2024 as a shipowning arm by Hanwha Ocean, aims to test new ship technologies, with a recent unveiling of their zero-emission LNG carrier design featuring an ammonia gas turbine-based electric propulsion system and advanced eco-friendly solutions. The newbuilding pair, valued at around $252 million each, details remain undisclosed.
