Hostage horrors
Israeli lawyer and former hostage Amit Soussana deserves praise for courageously sharing her experiences of sexual assault and torture in Gaza after being abducted by Hamas militants during the Oct. 7 massacre (“Hamas rapes and abuses all female captives: vic,” April 3).
Regrettably, approximately 100 kidnapped Israelis, including women and children, remain hostage in Gaza by Hamas. According to another former hostage, Mia Regev, every female Israeli captive in Gaza is subjected to sexual abuse.
As the Jewish community prepares for Passover, the plight of the Israeli hostages adds a new sense of urgency to the words spoken by Moses over 3,000 years ago: “Let my people go!”

McRipoff
Instead of blaming fast-food chains like McDonald’s for price increases, we should hold politicians accountable (“Golden arches rising,” April 4).
The notion that fast food is an affordable option has faded. I find better value and quality in smaller, locally owned restaurants like chicken joints and Chinese take-out. The food is fresher and tastes better in these establishments.

Bumbling Bowman
Once again, our nation’s leaders are inserting themselves into foreign politics where they do not belong (“Bowman: bye Bibi,” April 1).
It is amusing that a member of the Squad, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, is expressing opinions on the Israel-Hamas conflict. This is the same individual who caused confusion with a fire alarm incident and later claimed he mistook a lever for a door handle.
It is hard to believe that Bowman, a former school administrator, could confuse a fire alarm with a door handle. Yet, he is now voicing his views on Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Respect the song
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is correct in his stance on athletes and the national anthem (“Gov. Jeff Landry wants athletes to lose scholarships for avoiding national anthem after LSU controversy,” April 2).
All athletes should show respect during the national anthem by facing the flag with their right hand over their heart. There are no valid excuses for not doing so. Demonstrating respect for the American flag is a simple request. Those who do not abide by protocol should not only lose scholarships but also be removed from their teams. If they do not appreciate their country, they can find another place to play.
America, despite its flaws, remains the greatest nation in the world.

Crypto con
The sentencing of Sam Bankman-Fried results in 25 years of free accommodation for this con artist (“‘Remorseless’ SBF gets 25 yrs.” March 29).
For those skeptical of cryptocurrency (myself included), this is yet another cautionary tale of the risks associated with Bitcoin, despite its recent surge in value. If I cannot use Bitcoin to buy a coffee or a beer, then it holds no value for me. Am I alone in doubting its true worth?
