A man, Paul Anthony Masterson, pleaded guilty in the Western Australian District Court to possessing 2.4 tonnes of cocaine with intent to sell, part of a foiled $1 billion smuggling operation linked to a Mexican cartel. The shipment was intercepted in November 2022, and despite the traffickers’ belief that it had arrived, police arrested three individuals after they attempted to retrieve dummy cargo containing an inert substance.
