Moving from one venue to another at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival over the weekend was a task only taken on by Guenther Steiner via golf cart. Walking was not an option for him as he would be swarmed by fans wanting photos and autographs. Thanks to the Netflix series Drive to Survive, Steiner has become a household name in Formula One, despite not being a driver.
Speaking at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival, Steiner admitted that the newfound fame felt strange at first, but he has since gotten used to it. His time as Team Principal at Haas F1 Team came to an end this year, during which the team struggled to make it to the middle of the F1 standings.
Despite Haas’ lack of podium finishes, Steiner’s colorful language and interactions with team owner Gene Haas have endeared him to fans. At the festival, one fan even paid $600 for VIP tickets to meet Steiner and get his book signed.
Looking ahead to the Australian Grand Prix, Steiner believes that Ferrari may challenge Red Bull later in the season. As he now works as a television commentator, he hasn’t ruled out a return to the paddock, especially if the opportunity to lead a new team arises.
The recent scandal involving Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has added drama to the F1 world, but Steiner hopes that the sport can move on from it. As he continues his work as a commentator, he remains open to the possibility of returning to a leadership role in Formula One in the future.
