When war erupted in Bosnia, nine-year-old Alma Taslidžan witnessed the conflict unfold in her comfortable home in Donji Vakuf. As Bosnia declared independence from Yugoslavia, tensions among different ethnic groups escalated, leading to violence and displacement. Taslidžan’s family fled as refugees, and now, at 41, she works with Humanity & Inclusion in Brussels to advocate against the devastating impact of landmines and bombings in conflict zones.
