Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow during this year’s Groundhog Day celebration, predicting six more weeks of winter. Thousands gather each February 2 at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, a tradition dating back to 1887. Although Phil has made 107 winter predictions and only 21 calls for an early spring, NOAA notes his accuracy is around 30%, ranking him 17th among other weather-prognosticating animals. Despite this, Phil remains a beloved figure, managed by the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.
