Ground Stops at Major Airports Impact Mother’s Day Travel
On Mother’s Day weekend, ground stops at Newark Liberty International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport disrupted travel for many passengers. Atlanta’s stop was due to a runway equipment issue, causing over 530 flight delays and three cancellations, while Newark’s was linked to FAA equipment outages and telecommunications problems at a nearby traffic control facility. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy expressed concerns about ongoing airspace issues, emphasizing the need for urgent improvements to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
