A Lakeshore girls’ hockey team, the U11 Lakeshore Lightning white team, has won the Chevrolet Canada Good Deeds Cup by completing 1,288 acts of kindness in their community, earning $100,000 for cancer research organization Play for a Cure. The team’s victory was announced during the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, with Lakeshore Mayor Tracey Bailey congratulating the team for their inspiring work in building community and supporting those in need. Runner-up teams, U11 Huntsville Sting Black and U11 East York Bulldogs, also received donations for their selected Canadian charities after completing 1,422 good deeds.
