The Senate approved a funding package with a 71 to 29 bipartisan vote, sending it to the House for approval before the midnight deadline. Senators rejected several amendments, including those from Bernie Sanders and Jeff Merkley, while a two-week extension for the Department of Homeland Security was included in the deal. The House is scheduled to reconvene on Monday to vote on the legislation, which, if passed quickly, may prevent a government shutdown.
