The Lao government is investigating the deaths of two Danes, two Australians, a Briton, and an American who died after drinking contaminated alcohol in Vang Vieng, pledging to prosecute those responsible. Counterfeit alcohol and homemade spirits are a problem in Laos, prompting Australia and Britain to issue warnings to their citizens. The U.S. embassy in Laos also cautioned about the risks of methanol poisoning and advised buying drinks from licensed vendors to prevent further incidents.
