Five Auckland criminals, including Nafetalai Solomone, Beni Lea’aetoa, and Folauhola Meiloto Okalani, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking after being deceived into sharing trade secrets with a fake encrypted messaging app created by international law enforcement. A sixth individual had a charge of participating in organised crime dropped. This operation, dubbed “Operation Trojan Shield,” led to over 500 arrests globally since its execution in 2021. The scheme, developed by the FBI and Australian Federal Police, exploited the belief that the Anom app was secure from police interception.
