Google, in response to President Trump’s executive order, is discontinuing some of its diversity hiring targets, following other U.S. companies in scaling back diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The company’s parent, Alphabet, removed language emphasizing diversity in its recent SEC filing, citing the need to evaluate changes due to recent court decisions and executive orders. Despite efforts to increase representation of underrepresented groups, Google’s leadership and overall workforce still lack diversity, with challenges arising from Trump’s order threatening financial penalties for companies with “illegal” DEI programs.
