Darrell Nash, a retired truck driver from Langley, B.C., faced a $1,500 towing bill months after selling his 2004 Acura MDX because the buyer failed to register the vehicle. Despite Nash’s proper paperwork, he was still held responsible due to a loophole in vehicle transfer laws that only requires buyers to complete registration. Legal experts warn that this gap leaves sellers vulnerable to unexpected liabilities, including fines and criminal repercussions. Nash, unable to track the buyer, blames the system, which he says needs reform to protect honest sellers.
