Starting next year, Glasgow will introduce autonomous trains as part of a significant upgrade to its subway system, which serves around 13 million passengers annually. This modernization, the first in over 30 years, includes new trains, station facelifts, and enhanced safety measures like CCTV and platform screen doors. The driverless trains, capable of Unattended Train Operation, are expected to launch in the second half of 2026. This project represents the most extensive investment in the Subway in 45 years, with final preparations underway.
