Twenty-three people were rescued after a piece of ice they were fishing on broke away from the shore in Georgian Bay, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police and emergency crews airlifted those stranded, some of whom had begun to fear for their lives as conditions worsened. Although minor injuries were reported, all individuals are expected to recover. The OPP has urged the public to avoid unsafe ice to prevent similar situations.
