A special unit addressing cold cases of missing and murdered Indigenous people has successfully solved the murder of George David, a 65-year-old master carver from the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, who was found dead in Port Angeles, Washington, in 2016. The MMIWP Cold Case Investigations Unit, formed in 2023, secured new evidence leading to the arrest and conviction of Tina Marie Alcorn for second-degree murder in 2025. Alcorn has been sentenced to 13 years in prison. David’s daughter expressed gratitude for the unit’s efforts while mourning the loss of her father’s artistry.
