GDP could grow by B if Quebec removes trade barriers: report

The Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) estimates that Quebec could significantly enhance the Canadian economy by approximately $69.9 billion by removing trade barriers, particularly through agreements with provinces like Ontario, which alone could contribute $32.2 billion to GDP. While Nova Scotia has adopted the Free Trade and Mobility Within Canada Act to facilitate interprovincial commerce, Quebec is under pressure to follow suit, although its government remains cautious due to existing regulations and a commitment to protect its distinct interests. Minister Christopher Skeete indicated that Quebec is preparing to introduce new measures to improve trade, coinciding with upcoming meetings on internal trade.
