Gas boiler installations significantly outnumbered new heat pump installations in the UK last year by more than 15 to one, with only 13% of new homes equipped with the low-carbon alternative. Poorer households are struggling to access heat pumps due to inadequate grants, contributing to the country’s slow introduction compared to Europe. To meet net zero targets, the government must increase support for heat pump adoption, as about 450,000 households will need to install them annually by 2030.
