The attack, planned by terrorists who had recently returned from Pakistan, was aimed at causing maximum casualties and involved a recce of the Z-Morh tunnel site. The TRF, a group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack, which disrupted the construction of a strategically important tunnel providing all-weather connectivity to Ladakh.
