The Windsor Police Association is advocating for mandatory minimum staffing levels after a recent shift saw only 13 front-line officers, which they deem dangerously low. WPA president Kent Rice emphasized that such low numbers jeopardize community safety and response times. While staffing shortages are common across Canada, the lack of formal minimums in Ontario police services complicates the issue, potentially leading to increased costs for overtime or additional hires. Police board chair Jo-Anne Gignac acknowledged the rising costs of policing, while local police associations express concerns about inadequate resource deployment.
