A Scots dad has confirmed a major police search taking place in Fife is in connection with his son’s disappearance.

Cops have been at Auchtermuchty Common since Friday, April 5, and have cordoned off a large area of the local beauty spot as they search the area.

An image from the scene shows five police vehicles parked outside the entrance of the local beauty spot.

Missing man Allan Bryant’s dad told the the Record that he had been contacted by police to confirm that the police presence was in relation to his son.

Mr Bryant said: “The police have been in touch with me about this but there isn’t much I can say at this stage.

“I know they are looking for my son there but I don’t think they are going to find him there.”

Just after the 10th anniversary of his son’s disappearance last year, Allan told the Record that he believed a woman’s screams could be vital to the police investigation.

The dad explained how a local had told him about a woman screaming in the early hours of the morning his son vanished between 3am to 8am.

The witness said it was not normal screaming and could be heard five streets away. They said it sounded hysterical – as if something really bad had happened in the area.

This followed an emotional appeal from the Bryant family on November 3 of last year, ten years after Allan was last seen leaving the Styx nightclub shortly after 2am, just a mile from his home.

Allan Snr said: “Never did we think we would still be searching for our son 10 years on. All we need is closure. We need the truth. We need Allan back.

“Ten years ago today my son Allan went missing, ten years of heartache and pain, not knowing what happened or where his remains lie.

“My family have been through so much the last 10 years, watching the police divers search ponds, rivers, wells, quarries and woodland and so many other places.

“Praying each time they will find Allan and the disappointment and heartache when they don’t.

“We knew on Monday the 5th November, 2013, when we made that call to the police something was very wrong. It was so out of character for Allan not to be in touch with us.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are in attendance at Auchtermuchty Common to carry out inquiries in relation to an ongoing inquiry.”
