He fought in a separatist rebel group that burned schools. Now he's a teacher emphasizing peace

Ateasong Belts Tajoah, a former rebel fighter in Cameroon, now teaches logic and philosophy in a classroom in the country’s conflict-ridden southwest. After fighting with the separatist militia Red Dragons, he surrendered in 2019 following the loss of his child. Despite challenges with the rehabilitation program for ex-combatants, Tajoah earned a master’s degree and now advocates for peace, using education and outreach to inspire others to avoid the mistakes of armed conflict. His work has been instrumental in fostering peace and encouraging fighters to surrender.
