A prototype home in the Nak’azdli Whuten community of Fort St. James, B.C., represents an Indigenous-led housing initiative utilizing locally-sourced, low-grade wood for prefabricated housing kits. Developed through a partnership between the Nak’azdli Whuten Development Corp., Deadwood Innovations, and researchers at UNBC, the project aims to enhance housing security and local economies. This innovative mass timber construction allows for quick assembly while addressing housing shortages in northern communities.
