Fort Bragg is back: Army renames NC base to honor WWII hero

Fort Bragg, North Carolina, was officially rededicated to PFC Roland L. Bragg, a World War II hero, reversing the previous “Fort Liberty” name change. The ceremony, led by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, honored Bragg’s bravery in Bastogne and featured remarks from Lt. Gen. Gregory Anderson. The renaming ceremony highlighted Bragg’s quiet service, including his escape from a German prison camp and rescue of fellow paratroopers, as part of a broader effort to remove Confederate vestiges from military bases.
