Former assistant Garda commissioner John O’Driscoll, described as a “true Irish patriot” and a “fearless and dedicated” member of the force with a great sense of humour, was remembered at his funeral as ultimately a family man. Retiring in 2022 from leading the Garda’s Organised and Serious Crime branch, O’Driscoll worked closely with US authorities to impose sanctions, overseeing all specialist units in the force. He passed away suddenly last Friday, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment to his country.
