Former Cook County commissioner and Chicago alderman William Beavers passed away at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of championing Black business engagement in city contracts. Serving as alderman for 23 years and then as Cook County Commissioner, Beavers played a key role in electing numerous African American judges in Cook County. He is survived by his children, including former 7th Ward Ald. Darcel Beavers, and will be remembered for his progressive contributions to the Chicago City Council.
