Eddie Betts has addressed the recent incident where a driver hurled racial abuse at his children outside their home, expressing deep emotions towards the act he deemed as “hatred”.
The former Crows and Blues star shared the video on Instagram, capturing a car slowly passing by his home while someone in the vehicle shouted racial slurs multiple times.
Betts’ kids were playing basketball in the backyard when the incident took place.
During an interview on Fox Footy, Betts described the ordeal as a “challenging start to the [Easter] weekend.”
He expressed his shock at the fact that someone would go out of their way at 8:40 PM to drive to his house and verbally attack his children over the fence.
Betts emphasized that this incident had a greater impact on him than all the racial abuse he has faced throughout his football career, as it was directed towards his kids with such malice.
Despite the incident, Betts assured that his children are now doing fine, although they were understandably shaken and hesitant to play basketball that night.
Betts stressed the importance of raising awareness about such incidents, as they continue to affect Aboriginal people across the country, urging everyone to stand up against racism.
He expressed the lasting impact of such hateful actions on his children and emphasized the need to eradicate racism in Australia.
Betts expressed gratitude towards the football community and the wider Australian public for their support and love following the distressing incident.
