‘Forgiven but not forgotten’: Saeed’s father, mother and sister were executed within two days

Human Rights Watch estimates thousands of executions in Iran in 1988. Amnesty International reported 853 hangings in Iran in 2023. Saeed Eshraghi’s family members were executed in 1983 due to their Baha’i faith. Capital punishment continues to be used in Iran, with a significant increase in executions in recent years. Protester Majid Kazemi was sentenced to death for political dissent. The surge in executions led to protests against capital punishment. At least 166 executions were recorded in Iran in October 2023. The ‘No to Execution’ campaign aims to raise awareness of human rights violations in Iran.
