Investigation into Felling of Ancient Oak
The Forestry Commission has launched an investigation into the felling of a 500-year-old oak tree in Enfield, north London, which has sparked controversy and raised questions about land ownership. Junior environment minister Helene Hayman described the incident as “horrifying” and indicated it has “opened up a nerve in the country.” The investigation follows public outcry over the tree’s removal near a Toby Carvery car park earlier this month.
