Ontario Premier Doug Ford is considering costly transportation proposals, such as building a tunnel under Highway 401, to alleviate congestion. The project, estimated to cost taxpayers $1 billion per kilometer by experts, is undergoing an environmental assessment and feasibility study. Ford is also contemplating buying back Highway 407, currently operated under a 99-year lease, but critics argue he is not acting swiftly enough to address traffic issues.
