In order to maintain safety and efficiency in the kitchen, it’s important to replace certain items regularly. Plastic cutting boards and utensils can harbor bacteria and release microplastics into food over time. Metal graters, peelers, and microplanes can become dull and less effective, while kitchen sponges need to be replaced when they start to smell musty due to bacterial growth. Additionally, wooden utensils should be replaced annually to prevent bacterial buildup, and nonstick pots and pans should be replaced if the coating begins to deteriorate.
