Follow storm as it heads toward Florida – NBC Chicago

Helene strengthened into a hurricane and is expected to intensify as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico towards Florida. The storm has led to evacuations, school closures, and emergency declarations in Florida and Georgia. With sustained winds of 80 mph, Helene was located about 500 miles southwest of Tampa, Florida, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
