Charges Filed in Boating Hit-and-Run Death of Florida Teen

Authorities have charged two Florida men, Carlos “Bill” Alonso, 79, and Edmund Hartley, 31, with misdemeanors related to the hit-and-run death of 15-year-old Ella Adler, who was wakeboarding in May 2024 near Key Biscayne. Adler fell into the water and was struck by a second boat, which fled the scene; both men have pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of careless operation of a vessel. Adler was a talented ballerina and a student at Ransom Everglades School, remembered fondly by her family and community.
