Kerstin Gurtner, 33, died on the Grossglockner mountain after being allegedly abandoned by her boyfriend, Thomas Plamberger, 39, who now faces a charge of negligent homicide. Prosecutors claim Plamberger left her “exhausted, hypothermic, and disoriented” to seek help during extreme weather conditions, making errors in judgment and safety precautions. Gurtner froze to death just 150ft from the summit, and investigators found they were poorly equipped for the climb. Plamberger’s trial is set for February, where he could face up to three years in prison if convicted.
