Driverless trucks have commenced regular long-haul routes between Dallas and Houston, as announced by autonomous trucking firm Aurora, which launched its commercial service in Texas with clients Uber Freight and Hirschbach Motor Lines. Aurora’s self-driving technology, known as “Aurora Driver,” has completed over 1,200 miles without human intervention and has successfully delivered over 10,000 loads during testing, eliminating the need for safety drivers in its operations. CEO Chris Urmson stated that they are the first to operate a commercial driverless trucking service on public roads, starting with one truck and planning to expand by 2025.
