Brad Keith Sigmon was executed by firing squad in South Carolina for the murders of his ex-girlfriend’s parents, becoming the first firing squad execution in the state since 2010. Sigmon chose this method over lethal injection or the electric chair, and was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m. after three volunteer corrections staffers fired live rounds at his heart. The last firing squad execution in the U.S. before this was in 2010, with five states legalizing this method, including South Carolina.
