Fire Destroys Historic Louisiana Mansion
Flames engulfed the Nottoway Plantation House in Louisiana, a historic mansion completed in 1859, resulting in its total loss despite efforts from nearly a dozen fire departments. The owner, attorney Dan Dyess, expressed heartbreak over the destruction of what was once the South’s largest antebellum mansion, which had served as a resort and event venue. The mansion’s history, tied to racial injustice, had transitioned into a site for reflection and education, emphasizing the importance of preserving even painful historical legacies.
