Southwest Airlines Ends Free Checked Bag Policy
Southwest Airlines is implementing new checked baggage fees, marking the end of its longstanding policy allowing two free checked bags, as it aims to boost revenue amid pressure from investors. Starting Wednesday, only Rapid Rewards A-List members, Business Select passengers, and those with certain credit cards will enjoy complimentary checked bags, while others will face fees similar to those of major airlines. Additionally, Southwest will introduce assigned seating and other fare changes in response to financial challenges, including recent job cuts within the company.
