Fighting continues as Syria’s president calls on Alawite to lay down arms

Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa urged the Alawite minority to surrender after intense fighting with Syrian security forces, following attacks by pro-Assad fighters in Latakia and Tartous governorates. More than 250 people have been killed in the conflict, with civilians seeking refuge at the Russian Khmeimim base. While order has been restored in some areas, ongoing fighting and civilian casualties remain a growing concern for the new leadership.
