FIFA announced that the Women’s World Cup will expand from 32 to 48 teams starting in 2031, following the success of the 2023 tournament won by Spain. This expansion, approved unanimously by the FIFA Council, will feature a 12-group format, increasing matches from 64 to 104 and extending the tournament by a week. Additionally, FIFA is implementing new anti-racism measures and supporting Afghan women footballers through initiatives like the Afghan Women’s Refugee Team (AWRT), reaffirming its commitment to growing women’s football globally.
