The federal government of Canada announced the results of a pilot firearms buyback program, revealing only 25 out of a targeted 200 banned guns were returned during a test in Cape Breton. Public Safety Canada noted the need for clearer registration processes and longer participation periods in future efforts. Quebec has joined Winnipeg and Cape Breton in supporting the program, while several provinces, including Ontario and Alberta, have opted out, citing concerns about its effectiveness. The national rollout is expected to begin soon, delayed from the previous target.
