The Liberal candidate for Curtin, Tom White, has conceded defeat to sitting teal independent Kate Chaney, acknowledging her victory via Instagram after initially declaring the race too close to call on election night. With 76% of the vote counted, Chaney secured 53.3% of the two-part-preferred count, maintaining her seat after winning in 2022 and breaking the Coalition’s 23-year hold on the district. This loss adds to the Liberals’ challenges, as their leader Peter Dutton also failed to win his seat in Queensland, although they retained some regional seats in Western Australia.
