In the lead-up to the Federal election, both Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton focused on housing affordability for first-home buyers. Albanese proposed a plan to build 100,000 new homes with a 5% deposit option, while Dutton criticized this as a “fictional” promise and suggested a mortgage tax deduction scheme. As they campaigned, both leaders also addressed food insecurity, with Albanese pledging funds to a non-profit in Adelaide and Dutton committing support to Food Bank Queensland.
