Carney’s budget allocates $150M to CBC and Eurovision participation

The Canadian federal budget proposed a $150 million funding boost for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and Radio-Canada, including exploring Canada’s potential participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Although Canada has not officially participated, Canadians have represented other countries, notably Celine Dion in 1988. Participation requires membership in the European Broadcasting Union, which Canada lacks, but non-member countries can be invited. The next Eurovision contest is scheduled for May 2026 in Vienna.
