A 20-year-old man, Febrio De Zoysa, has pleaded guilty to murdering four children, their mother, and a family friend in a mass stabbing in Ottawa on March 6, 2024. He admitted to four counts of first-degree murder, resulting in automatic life sentences with no parole for 25 years, and pleaded down to second-degree murder for the mother and infant, with parole eligibility to be determined later. De Zoysa, an international student from Sri Lanka living with the victims, was arrested at the scene. The case has drawn significant media attention in Canada and Sri Lanka.
