Fears for health of Alaa Abd el-Fattah and mother as hunger strikes take toll | Foreign policy

The family of imprisoned British-Egyptian activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah expresses grave concerns for his and his mother Laila Soueif’s health as they continue their hunger strikes to demand his release. Soueif has been on a hunger strike for eight months, while Fattah has been consuming only minimal liquids for over 55 days, suffering from severe health issues. Despite UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s assurances and discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, little progress has been made towards Fattah’s release, and Soueif’s health is deteriorating significantly.
