Fang Fang, an author, documented life in the closed city during the lockdown, which was initially praised but later censored by authorities. Her writings were later published as “Wuhan Diary: Dispatches from a Quarantined City” by UCLA Professor Michael Berry. This was not the first time Fang Fang faced backlash for her writing, as her novel “Soft Burial” was blacklisted after winning an award in China for historical realism.
