The family of Celia Marsh, a 42-year-old dental nurse who died after consuming a “dairy-free” Pret a Manger sandwich contaminated with milk protein, has secured a £1.25 million settlement. Marsh, who was severely allergic to milk, collapsed after eating the flatbread on a shopping trip in December 2017. An inquest attributed her death to the contaminated product, prompting her husband to file a compensation claim against the cafe chain and the product’s manufacturer. The settlement will see Pret responsible for 25% of the payout.
